Africa’s First Colony: The Dark Beginning in 1575 #history #blackhistory

Before the Berlin Conference… before the Scramble for Africa… there was Angola.

In 1575, Portugal invaded the west coast of Africa and made Angola its first colony. What started as trading posts in Luanda quickly turned into full-scale domination. Angola became a central hub in the transatlantic slave trade—millions were taken from its soil. But the people fought back.

For over 30 years, Queen Nzinga led fierce resistance against Portuguese rule. Her legacy became a symbol of Africa’s fight for sovereignty.

From colonization in 1575 to independence in 1975… Angola endured 400 years of pain, power, and resilience.

But today, we must ask — has colonization truly ended… or just changed its form?

This is the story they never taught you in school.
