In 2009, Alex Sanchez was arrested alongside eight others on sweeping RICO charges that linked them to MS-13’s alleged leadership, including accusations of seven murders stretching back to 1995. Prosecutors claimed Sanchez was a covert “shot caller” conspiring on violent acts both in the U.S. and El Salvador. Sanchez’s defense was ultimately bolstered by a federal public defender who exposed serious flaws in the prosecution’s case, including falsified evidence and misidentified wiretap participants.
