The Black Shuck, as it is known in English folklore, was originally said to be a spectral black dog or wolf-like demon that haunts the countryside of England, particularly East Anglia, as an omen of death. But in the Conjuring universe version, the shape-shifting entity makes its way to the artifact room of the Warrens, where it is accidentally released and takes on many of the traits seen in other antagonists that have menaced this franchise.
The character is best known from Gary Dauberman’s 2019 film: Annabelle Comes Home, where the legend of the Black Shuck is combined with the mythology of a werewolf! In this video I’ll be analyzing everything we know about The Black Shuck, from its origins in English folklore as a hellish hound, to the different versions of the legend and their meaning, its imprisonment and release from the Warrens’ artifact collection, and its potential future in the history of the Conjurverse.
