APD launches unarmed CARE Unit in downtown, Midtown, Buckhead areas
The new program is part of Operation Heat Wave, a summer safety plan launched by Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens.
The units are part of the city’s new CARE unit, or Community Assistance Responders
The CARE unit will respond to non-emergency calls, including non-injury car crashes, traffic incidents, or potentially to help with missing persons alerts
Six unarmed units started patrolling earlier this summer without a sworn police officer
APD will soon call for funding for more co-responders, specifically to assist with mental health emergencies

Emory Hospital loses part of a patients skull
Emory Hospital removed part of man’s skull temporarily, then they lost it
Fernando Cluster was admitted to Emory University Hospital Midtown in Atlanta, for a brain surgery caused by intracerebral hemorrhage
When it was time to put his skull back, Emory’s personnel said there were several bone flaps with incomplete or missing patient identification
After fabricating a bone flap (skull) to replace his lost one and surgery it got infected causing more surgeries to take place
Afterward the patient was billed over $146,000 due to the hospital’s “negligence”
The lawsuit is asking for an undetermined amount in damages
