Cops Find Dismembered Body on Sketchy Neighbor's Property
Forty-seven-year-old Patrick Shelton vanished near Challis, Idaho in May 2025, leaving only his dog in his truck in the Big Hill area west of town. Investigators linked 70-year-old neighbor Alan Bruce to the disappearance, finding bone fragments, flecks of human flesh, and burn barrel evidence on his rural property, while blood evidence was found inside Shelton’s truck. Bruce made incriminating statements to investigators, admitting to shooting Shelton, dismembering him with a chainsaw, and burning and dumping the remains in the Salmon River following a dispute over Shelton’s property on Bruce’s land. Bruce was originally charged with first-degree murder but ultimately entered an Alford plea to second-degree murder and destruction of evidence, for which he was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
