Dad Locked Young Son in Hot Car While He Shopped at Walmart: Police
A Colorado father visiting his son in New Mexico was arrested after allegedly leaving his 6-year-old in a locked, hot car for over 20 minutes while he ran errands, despite outdoor temperatures reaching 80°F — which can quickly cause car interiors to soar above 100°F. Bodycam footage and police interviews reveal the father, Michael Clohessy, appeared defensive and unremorseful, insisting he didn’t realize it was illegal and claiming he cracked the windows and was trying to surprise the boy’s mother with an oil change. In addition to facing a child abuse charge from the incident, Clohessy was also already dealing with unrelated drug charges in Colorado and is now serving a four-year prison sentence, with the earliest release in 2027.
