David Packouz shared insights into the creation of the 2016 film “War Dogs,” where his real-life story was brought to the silver screen with Miles Teller portraying him. Packouz elaborated on his participation, noting that Warner Bros. acquired his life rights, compensating him modestly in return. Despite this, he expressed amusement over the fact that Teller earned considerably more for depicting him. The screenplay, as per Packouz, was primarily based on extensive interviews he had with the screenwriter.
Packouz also made a brief cameo in the film, earning himself a spot in SAG-AFTRA with a few seconds of screen time. He was impressed with the film’s balance between drama and comedy, appreciating how it served as director Todd Phillips’ transition from comedic projects like “The Hangover” to more serious films like “Joker.” Meanwhile, Packouz’s former partner, Efraim Diveroli, attempted to sue Warner Bros., alleging that they plagiarized his story, although this lawsuit was ultimately unsuccessful.
