In a revealing interview, notorious DC drug kingpin Javier “Panama” Card opened up about his May 13, 1991 arrest by federal authorities for two separate murders—one in Washington, DC, and another in New York. Card described feeling the “walls closing in” as the FBI connected his criminal activities across multiple cities, including New York, Philadelphia, and DC. He was initially picked up on a murder warrant in New York, held without bail, and later transferred to DC where he faced charges for one murder. Despite the overwhelming case against him, Card refused to cooperate with law enforcement and was denied bond. After being convicted in DC, he was extradited to New York for trial. Though offered a plea deal in New York to avoid further impact on his family, disagreements over terms led Card to reject it and face trial head-on. The law enforcement task force targeting him was reportedly called “Red Rum,” referencing the series of murders linked to his case.
