On the “All Day Neighborhood School Program” designed for the enrichment of poverty children in Brooklyn, N.Y. R. 1: A teacher in the program works with fifth grade students from large classes.
She takes special interest in resolving their problems, working with them individually and in small groups. She takes them on neighborhood outings, and runs an after school club for girls. R. 2: One child in the program is reported to have hit her regular classroom teacher.
Students, teachers, the principal, and the girl’s parent discuss the problem and work together to encourage her to return to class.
