I’ve set out to commemorate the great accomplishments of one of America’s first international African American concert singers. Roland Hayes: born on June 3, 1887, in Curryville, Georgia. Roland Hayes was an innovator for his courageous decision to include the “Religious Negro Folk Songs in his programs, and by doing so, he opened the doors for these songs to be included alongside mainstream music genres, such as Classical and Art Songs- making him a trendsetter and an international name.
