Big K.R.I.T. on Being Discovered & Trinidad James’ Talent (2013)

https://www.vladtv.com – Recently VladTV had the pleasure of chopping it up with Big K.R.I.T. During our chat, the critically acclaimed MC offered his insight on who and what led to his deal with Def Jam, and later “The Vent” lyricist opened up about working with Trinidad James.

K.R.I.T. elaborated on how a determined Jonny Shipes, founder of indie imprint Cinematic Music Group, eventually helped him get signed with Def Jam. After hearing “Just Touched Down” and “Something,” Shipes was convinced of the Mississippi native’s talent. K.R.I.T. confided, “He [Shipes] just held it down, man.” The respected wordsmith went on to credit Shipes for introducing him to a host of influential people. “I had the opportunity to meet [producer] Sha Money and that’s how the whole Def Jam thing happened,” reflected K.R.I.T.

Next the convo turned to working with Trinidad James for the “My Trunk” collaboration. “I’m excited because I had the opportunity to work with him. He on one of my records and he snapped,” related the ‘4 Eva N A Day’ entertainer. Big K.R.I.T. then insisted, “As far as carrying a cadence and rhyming he’s [Trinidad James] definitely got it more together than a lot of people that I know that’s been rapping for some years now.”
