The story behind Black Ink Crew isn’t quite an entrepreneurial dream story, but it seemed to all work out for VH1’s Ceaser at the end. After starting his tattoo career, the reality star said he decided to change shop locations to expand his artistry after getting tired of doing the same “RIP” tattoo styles at his former shop. Once he got to Harlem and began working at Black Ink, although Cease admits he was never the owner, the shop was under different management. Cease says he didn’t gain ownership until after the former owner lost 6-months worth of the store’s rent money and later decided to take a chance and spend $20,000 to keep the shop afloat since they just sealed a deal with VH1.

Fortunately, there was no official paperwork, and Cease was granted full ownership of the shop. Further, into this interview, he tells us about the first episode of Black Ink Crew and how broke the entire cast was.
