Like everyone else, Charlamagne tha God says he was shocked when he saw the video footage of Troy Ave firing a gun at Irving Plaza, which seemed in retaliation to a shootout that started in the celebrity green room. The Breakfast Club’s radio host says his first reaction was “What the f*ck happened?” Aside from people blaming Troy Ave or even Hip-Hop for the shooting that left three injured and 1 dead, Charlamagne blames the person who brought the weapon to the concert and Irving Plaza security for failing to perform in-depth searches. Following the incident, several Hip-Hop shows were cancelled and the radio personality says some of the faults may be from people trying to carry out rapper’s like Jay Z and Nas’ real life events they rapped about in their own music. In no way was Charlamagne blaming rap for violence, but more so the misled fans.

What f**ked the game up is when you have real street rapers who come out and they started selling records. Because those real guys that were from the streets were talking about their experiences. Things that have really happened in their lives, and you seen them grow and evolve.” He continued, “But then you have tall of these CB4 motherf**kers…from the suburbs somewhere like ‘yo they’re selling records doing that gangsta s**t, lets do that gangsta s**t.’ Y’all f**ked the game up because y’all out here selling poison for profit.”
