Flashback: Dr. Umar Johnson on Plans to Open All-Black Charter School

In this Flashback from 2016, Dr. Umar Johnson sat down with VladTV and gave his thoughts on education and the African American community, as well as his plans to open up his own Charter School.

Johnson was asked why he thinks that education isn’t celebrated in hip-hop, and went on to say an emphasis isn’t put on education in the African American communities in general, especially for boys.

Johnson went on to add he started caring about black history after taking a mandatory class in elementary school, and later learning that he was related to Frederick Douglass during his first family reunion.

Take a look at the flashback above.
