Growing up in Haiti, Washington Redskins linebacker, Junior Galette, says he had quite a culture shock once his parents could afford for him to come to America. Well, while most Americans have many complaints, Galette tells DJ Vlad there was a time in his life where he didn’t even know how to flush a toilet and thought to live in the projects was comfortable than what he was used to. “When I came here, I was like ‘What? Running water!'” He explained, “I was still kind of in the projects in Spring Valley, New York in these apartments that we stayed in, but I was blessed. All the other kids, my friends used to be complaining like ‘I’m tired living with roaches and rats’ and I’m like ‘What? These roaches not the roaches I used to see.'”
The humble athlete has faced many adversities in his life, in this interview Galette talks particularly about almost missing out on the NFL. During his senior year, the 28-year-old was suspended from Temple Universty when his younger cousin, who was living with him off-campus, was caught with stolen laptops. When the NFL draft arrived, many teams questioned the once top contender’s character and remained undrafted but eventually got picked up by the New Orleans Saints as a free agent. Fortunately, Galette says he turned a 3-year deal worth up to $9 million in 2013 to a four-year contract extension worth $41.5 million. The Athlete says he only played one year with the team following his contract and received $23 million before heading to Washington D.C.
