The 2016 Oscars has been the talk of the town ever since they announced no Black actors will be recognized for last year’s films. According to Luenell, however, you can’t deny the receipts.” In 2015 F. Gary Gray’s Straight Outta Compton biopic grossed over $200 million at the box office, but the only ones to receive an Oscar nomination were the screenplay’s two Caucasian writers. “…Everybody doesn’t feel the same way we do,” she said with a shrug. “You know, it’s fine for Blacks to get up and squawk about not being included – where’s all the friends of all these Black people?…There’s White people that feel the same way we do…It’s just like everybody who wants to be Black and sag their pants and listen to hip-hop, if they started hanging Black people again how Black would they want to be then?”

Luenell – whose acted alongside Sacha Baron Cohen and Adam Sandler in the past – also believes certain Black actors, actresses and filmmakers fear voicing their opinion and having it shamed by critics, which is why she slightly agrees with Stacey Dash’s previous Oscar comments. After a long pause the comedienne disagreed with the belief Black people should not have separate award ceremonies, but she did “agree that we shouldn’t have to have it.”
