Comedian Michael Blackson says he got his start in comedy when BET’s Comic View came to Philadelphia and aired his filmed stand-up—that he says he never saw since he didn’t have cable. From there, Blackson says his career took off after investing in himself and eventually landing roles on Ice Cube’s Next Friday and Master P’s Repos.

In this interview, Blackson also talks to DJ Vlad about comedians, like Chris Tucker, making the decision to walk away from roles to build their career with other roles, which you can hear more about in the above clip.
