NY lyricist Mysonne knows firsthand about the widespread corruption and hypocrisy endemic to the criminal justice system of the United States. He was personal friends with the infamous “Central Park 5,” a group of 5 young men that pled guilty to raping a woman in Central Park in 1989 but were later exonerated after spending years in jail. Mysonne also spent seven years in prison for a crime he did not commit, 90 of those days in solitary confinement. Here, Mysonne tells Vlad about the inhumanity of solitary confinement, how plea deals are transacted, and the special treatment money can provide in the American criminal justice system.
