Kendrick Lamar Sent Shockwaves Through Hip Hop With This Message!
Anytime Kendrick Lamar drops anything it can be considered a bombshell announcement but the reclusive rap star truly threw his fans for a loop on Friday (August 20) when he disclosed the details about his last few months removed from the public eye.
Breaking his 2021 social media silence on Instagram, the Pulitzer Prize-winning MC not only admitted he wasn’t connected through the world via cell phone, he revealed his highly anticipated next album would be the last with his original label home of Top Dawg Entertainment.
Kendrick connected Twitter fans to a site where they clicked on “nu thoughts” as a file title. The rapper included a statement explaining his life.
“I spend most days with fleeting thoughts. Writing. Listening. Collecting old Beach cruisers. He wrote that morning rides kept him on a hill full of silence. I can go for months without my phone. My comfort zone has been disturbed by loss, love, and grief, but I still see the light of God through my music and my family. As the world changes, I think about what is most important. “The life in which my words will land next.”
Kendrick also informed fans that his next album will be his last as an artist with TDE. He expressed his wish for continued success to the label and noted the “Brotherhood” he has felt as a TDE artist.
He said, “As I record my last TDE album I feel joy to be a part of such an influential cultural legacy after 17 years.” The Struggles. The Success. The Brotherhood. Top Dawg will continue to be a vessel for candid creators, may the Most High do so. I will continue to follow my calling. Completion is the best thing. Faith in the unknown is always a good thing. I am grateful that you keep me in your thoughts. I have prayed for all of you. We will see you soon.” #kendricklamar #tde
Anthony Tiffith (CEO of Top Dawg Entertainment) responded to Kendrick Lamar’s announcement that his next album will be his last TDE release.
Tiffith released a statement shortly after Kendrick broke the silence and announced the news. Tiffith expressed support for Kendrick’s soon-to-be ex-artist, while reflecting on TDE’s success and discussing the future plans of the label.
The statement stated that this was Dot’s last album for TDE. It is also a VICTORY LAP and a celebration. I know that he will succeed in whatever he chooses and will have our full support. Top Dawg Entertainment will continue to grow and develop, giving artists the platform to explore any direction they want.
