The Real Reason Will Smith Got Banned For 10 Years From The Oscars

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has banned Will Smith from all Academy events for 10 years for slapping Chris Rock during this year’s show.

“The Board of Governors has decided, for a period of 10 years, from April 8, 2022, Mr. Smith shall not be permitted to attend any Academy events or programs in person or virtually, including but not limited to the Academy Awards,” they announced Friday.

The statement continued, “We want to express our deep gratitude to Mr. Rock for maintaining his composure under extraordinary circumstances. We also want to thank our hosts, nominees, presenters and winners for their poise and grace during our telecast.”

Smith will keep his Oscar for his role in “King Richard.”

Ahead of the official decision, Smith himself resigned from the Academy last week, which originally meant he gave up the right to vote, but would continue to be nominated, attend and keep his current award. #willsmith #oscars chrisrochk
