Tory Lanez is being investigated by the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office for allegedly assaulting August Alsina on September 17 in Chicago. Alsina claimed on Instagram that Lanez assaulted him after Alsina refused to dap him up or shake his hand; TMZ has shared a video of Lanez appearing to celebrate in the aftermath of the alleged attack.
“We are aware of the allegations that the defendant attacked artist August Alsina and are investigating these claims,” the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office said in a statement to Pitchfork. “The allegations are serious and will be thoroughly examined.” Pitchfork has reached out to Lanez and Alsina’s respective representatives for comment.
Lanez is called “defendant” by the D.A.’s office in reference to the assault and weapons charges he faces over the alleged 2020 shooting of Megan Thee Stallion. Lanez pleaded not guilty last November to assault with a semiautomatic handgun. He’s currently out on bond and has had his bail increased twice: once for a surprise appearance at Rolling Loud Miami 2021 before Megan performed, and another time for discussing Megan on social media. He is awaiting a delayed trial.
