In a recent interview, Hunter Biden discussed his early career after graduating from Yale Law School in 1996. Asked whether MBNA’s history as a major donor to his father Joe Biden’s Senate campaigns helped him get hired, Biden said no, noting that MBNA was Delaware’s largest employer and that he had other options, including major law firms and banks.

Biden said he chose MBNA partly because he wanted to live near his extended family while raising a young child. He joined the company’s executive training program but left after about 18 months, saying the corporate lifestyle was not a fit.

He then moved to Washington, D.C., taking a Clinton administration role under Commerce Secretary Bill Daley as executive director of e-commerce policy coordination. Biden said the work focused heavily on internet privacy and expanding access through “Bridging the Digital Divide.” He described himself as a junior appointee and said he did not work directly with President Clinton.
