Inspectah Deck: Using the "Triumph" Verse Twice Helped My Legacy

I never saw me sitting on the VladTV couch 20 years later.”

Within this segment of his exclusive interview, Rollie Fingers, speaks on how his decision to reuse a verse would cement his lyrical legacy. Although his verse for “Triumph” from the Wu’s sophomore effort, ‘Wu-Tang Forever,’ was already used on the initial compilation of Tony Touch’s, ‘Power Cypha: 50 MCs, Volume 1,’ due to its inherent “classic” quality, Tony Touch immediately gave Rebel INS his blessing to reuse the verse.

During an impromptu 5 A.M. studio session with Rza, Rollie Fingers dropped the verse which fit perfectly to the the unfinished “Triumph” track. Eventually, “Triumph” would become one of the first million dollar Hip-Hop videos, and it would also solidify Inspectah Deck as a lyrical genius. He asserts, “It’s one of those rhymes that people came to me and gave me that respect like, ‘Yo, you’re one of the f***ing best.'”

Following that train of thought “The City,” wordsmith shares, “That record did a lot for me. It changed my Rap life.” He goes onto share after being highlighted in the “Hip-Hop Quoteable” section of the Source magazine, he was able to garner more respect from people who in turned started researching more of his work. Also, he successfully got more business offers.
