In this clip, Albert Hughes shared his experiences working with the late Tupac Shakur and the controversies that ensued. While working on “Menace II Society,” Hughes described that an argument occurred over Tupac’s tendency to ‘perform’ during rehearsals which led to Tupac walking off the set. Hughes added that this controversy, along with the late arrival of the team, drove his brother Allen Hughes to finally ‘stand up’ to Tupac. Hughes insisted that Tupac was a good person who did a few bad things and recalled that his overbearing character was what led to the controversy. He also discussed Tupac’s fanbase, comparing the iconic rapper’s impact both domestically and worldwide to a religious figure. Hughes believes that Tupac’s eventual exit from the film was meant to be and didn’t obstruct either party’s career path.
