Arthur J. Williams Jr. grew up in challenging circumstances shaped by poverty, mental health issues, crime, and hardship. His father was an auto thief who abandoned the family when he was eleven years old. Soon after, Williams’s mother was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. As a result of these conditions, their family experienced homelessness and moved to the projects in Chicago where he started committing crimes at a young age. However, he says his criminal endeavors were not about showing off but a way to survive and take care of his family. Williams also revealed he was introduced to counterfeiting by a friend of his mother’s after he was arrested for stealing a car.
