A music documentary on Ashanti was highly requested, so I had to do it. Ashanti is a multi-platinum selling R&B singer and songwriter who is most known for her top hits “Foolish”, “Always on Time”, and “Rock Wit U.” Ashanti still holds the world record of having the fastest selling debut album by a female artist (her album “Ashanti” sold 503,000 in the first week). She is the first female artist to have all 3 of her debut songs peak to the top ten Billboard charts, simultaneously. Ashanti’s rapid rise to success was followed by a huge obstacle. Her music label Murda Inc, faced several setbacks, including being investigated by the government and being ridiculed by 50 Cent and G-Unit. Ultimately the issues with her label contributed to Ashanti’s fall from the top spot.
