Legendary comedian and actor, Cheech Marin, popularly known for being one-half of the comedy duo Cheech & Chong, spoke about Tommy Chong being arrested after a federal raid. Born and raised in South Central Los Angeles, Marin acknowledged his early life in the city during the fifties and sixties, recounting his move from a neighborhood which was 94% black to Granada Hills, which he humorously characterized as 150% white. Marin also revealed the origin of his nickname, Cheech, coined by his uncle Bono upon his birth. Coming from a Mexican background, but growing up predominantly English-speaking, the comedian admitted to working on his Spanish later on in adulthood, aided by frequent trips to Costa Rica. Given his father was a policeman, he had a relatively law-abiding upbringing and went on to graduate from San Fernando Valley State College at Cal State Northridge.
