Cheech Marin revealed how voiceover work in animation became a turning point in his solo career. The actor recounted how his debut with the animated feature film “Oliver and Company” served as his stepping-stone into this industry, albeit after a redo of his initial audition. After impressing the director George Scribner, Marin found his niche, going on to provide voiceovers for diverse films like “The Lion King,” where he played Banzai the hyena. The booming advancements in the VHS industry further fueled his success. Marin went on to land roles in major projects like Pixar’s “Cars” franchise, and he became prominent enough in the animated film industry that he became a staple in Pixar films during John Lasseter’s tenure. His success in the animation industry eventually led to his reunion with his previous partner, Tommy Chong, on stage after a decade-long hiatus.
