In this clip, Dave Mays talks about the way in which his critics began to question his business acumen and his spending, in regards to the $7 million dollars in annual revue that The Source was bringing in. The founder of The Source sets the record straight by clarifying that it was his investment into the internet, back in the early 2000s, that contributed to his magazine’s downfall. He also discusses how a business loan to upgrade the company’s business offices, along with an investment into Benzino’s music led to his mishandling of the magazine’s ownership. Lastly, Dave Mays shares his theory on the government’s effort to undermine black companies in hip hop, such as The Source, during the ’90s and early 2000s.
