NBA legend Dominique Wilkins reflected on his experiences and the evolution of the Slam Dunk Contest. Noting that in 1984, all top players would enter the contest, Wilkins said that today’s best dunkers, like Ja Morant, Zion Williamson, Giannis, Lebron James, and Russell Westbrook, don’t participate at all. According to Wilkins, these players might fear it would negatively affect their legacy. He reminisced about his first dunk contest, where he came third after Larry Nance and Julius Erving. His initial lack of passion changed when he saw Dr. J, causing him to compete more fiercely the following year. He also shared how he felt losing to his teammate Spud Webb. Finally in response to who among the current NBA roster would win the Slam Dunk Contest, Wilkins picked Ja Morant.
