In an interview with former pro boxer Evander Holyfield, it was revealed that Holyfield was initially set to fight Mike Tyson, Francesco Damiani, and later Bert Cooper due to various circumstances. He eventually fought Cooper and despite getting a technical knockdown, Holyfield managed to win the match. Following this, his 1992 match against Larry Holmes saw Holyfield getting injured for the first time when he was cut by an elbow. Despite this, he prevailed with a unanimous decision victory. Holmes admitted that he lost the fight fair and square, even though he suffered a detached retina four weeks before the match that affected his sight. This was the first time Holyfield was cut in his professional career. Despite the painful lesson, Holyfield drew upon his mother’s advice to continue fighting without letting his injuries stop him.
