Former NFL player Fred “The Hammer” Williamson discussed his experience playing in the first-ever Super Bowl in 1967. Despite the Kansas City Chiefs, his team, being the underdogs against the Green Bay Packers, Williamson played with confidence. He recalled how he wasn’t worried about the competition as he’d covered players much faster in the American Football League. He remembered the disappointment of some teammates not playing to their potential more than the disappointment of the 35-10 loss. Post-Super Bowl, Williamson retired, taking a season to play in the Canadian league. Describing himself as an architect at heart, he explained his disregard for the later growth of the Super Bowl, stating his priority was doing his job on the field.
