In this clip, Garrett Morris recounted his journey from treading the boards as a playwright to working as a writer for the legendary Lorne Michaels on Saturday Night Live (SNL). He described the frustration in transitioning from writing 2 to 2.5-hour plays to creating shorter content for TV. Morris also discussed an incident where his joke about “white liberal guilt” was used without giving him credit. This altercation was diffused when he was called into the green room by Michaels, an intervention he saw as a turning point in his career. Furthermore, he paid tribute to his SNL contemporaries such as John Belushi, Jane Curtin, Gilda Radner, Dan Aykroyd, Chevy Chase, and Laraine Newman, hailing their improvisational skills and the impact they had on the show and his own career. Morris even maintains ties with many of them to date.
