In this clip, Howard Hewett talked about how he left his situation at Motown to join Shalamar over at SOLAR Records headed by Dick Griffey. Howard detailed how he received an offer from Jeffrey Daniels, one of the founding members of Shalamar, to be the group’s lead singer. He then recounted doing an informal audition for Dick Griffey in LA and receiving a $500 advance and a plane ticket to join the group in New Jersey as they prepped for a TV appearance the Monday following his Saturday audition.
