It’s Sunday and it’s time to wake up with The Pivot for NFL Week 4! Kicking off October and Breast Cancer Awareness month, the guys are sharing the initiative Pivot to Pink to raise awareness and resources around breast cancer, an illness that affects many in our daily lives. Check out our pivotpodcast.com for special pink merchandise and join our efforts in this fight.

Today’s show is brought to you by Seat Geek, Starting off football Sunday with catching up on all the news and happenings around the league; Ryan, Channing and Fred talk about today’s match ups and the players who are becoming storylines not just headlines. After a difficult situation to watch Thursday night in Cincinnati as the Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa suffered serious head trauma, the questions have been raised, should the QB even have been in the game to begin with. The guys discuss how the game has changed so much since they’ve played and with all the new information available how the league has instituted new protocols, especially around concussions. Both Channing and Ryan share personal stories about their playing days and when they went back on the field when they probably shouldn’t have but understanding that when left up to the player, they are always going to choose to be on the field.

Moving on to today’s games, Fred talks about how his Jacksonville Jaguars are the biggest surprise and team he’s most impressed with this season. Talking about the defense and how they will match up against the undefeated Eagles today, which brings Ryan to talk about Jalen Hurts being the hottest topic in football with the way he’s turned around the organization to be the NFC frontrunner. Channing expresses his disappointment in Tampa Bay and concerns of Tom Brady not playing the same way, raising questions of his overall health or if it is the lack of weapons he has on offense. The Raiders also fall into that category as they are still winless with a roster full of stars. Fred calls out the Ravens for not giving Lamar Jackson the contract he deserves and has earned while giving the young quarterback his flowers for consistently putting up numbers and leading his team as an offensive powerhouse. Making thier picks for today, the guys look to see if the Jags are for real and how the match up against Philadelphia’s offense.

Sitting down with the Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, the guys talk about his transition from being one of the best defensive players to now one of the best defensive minds in football. Crediting his energy and love of the game to the overall improvement and excitement behind Detroit’s defensive unit this season. Playing for Bill Parcells and Bill Belichick throughout his NFL career, Glenn adapted to their coaching styles and applied some of the lessons and motivation he received from guys like them to his own coaching approach. Coaching with a philosophy of being an ass kicker, Glenn doesn’t accept anything less than someone’s best and is bringing back that sense of urgency on the field and a new found violence in every play.

On the opposite side of the ball, Glenn has been impressed with the leadership and skill set quarterback Jared Goff has brought to the team and believes he is the right person to rally the Lions’ young talent. Opening up about the opportunity to be a head coach one day, Glenn understands the obstacles that are often associated with black men as head coaches in the NFL but giving up certain standards or changing who he is as a leader is not something he’s willing to compromise when that time comes. Glenn is confident and proud of the guys he has on this team and is adamant that the Detroit Lions are becoming a franchise that has turned the corner and in position to be a team still competing in January this season.
