In this clip, John “Boxer” Mendoza talked about being transferred to San Quentin, a prison organized by racial and gang divides. There, he came to know Stanley “Tookie” Williams, a co-founder of the Crips gang sentenced to death in 2005. Williams is remembered as a good person, intelligent and engaging, who won a Nobel Peace Prize for his attempts to change lives positively. However, the interview subject argued Williams’ execution was politically motivated as he never denounced his gang membership.
