In this clip, Marvin Herbert talked about how his life of crime can be best characterized as a slow progression. He talked about getting into stealing car parts and eventually stealing entire cars. Marvin also discussed how he folded that initial enterprise into selling drugs but explained how much he’s tried to keep his kids away from following in his footsteps.

Later in the clip, Marvin Herbert spoke about boxer Mark Prince asking him to speak to some kids, and he went on to share another story about going out with Prince and getting a taste of celebrity. From there, Marvin spoke about getting arrested for a ring that a girl told her parents Marvin stole, although he says she gave it to him after asking him to be her boyfriend. Marvin then detailed the police coming into his home, where he says an officer slapped his mother, which led to Marvin blacking out, biting officers, and being arrested.

Once in custody, Marvin explained how he started out in the youth jail, but after being violent repeatedly, he was moved to the adult jail at 16. Marvin stated that he was on edge from the time he got to the adult jail, which led to him fighting anyone who crossed him. When asked about being locked up on conspiracy to murder charges and weapons charges in 2002, Marvin admitted that it was the most serious charge that he’s ever faced.
