In this clip, Smooth B opened up about his father being murdered when he was 9, and Smooth B explained that his father was a truck driver and he got into a car accident. Smooth B added that his father was a musician and songwriter, which he revealed influenced him to get into music. Smooth B explained that after his father’s death, he was trying to process everything, and he went on to speak about his brothers raising him. He added that his brothers also taught him about religion and the streets, and Smooth B went on to speak about one of his brothers passing away recently.

From there, Smooth B spoke about Nice & Smooth being inducted into the Hip-hop Hall of Fame museum in D.C. alongside Rakim, Pete Rock, and Kid Capri. He went on to speak about “Entourage” actor Jeremy Piven calling him about the induction, and he called the experience “beautiful.” Speaking more about Rakim, Smooth B spoke about running into him at “the weirdest places.” He went on to share a story about running into Rakim at 125th and St. Nicholas Avenue in Harlem, which is the same street he rapped about on “Sometimes I Rhyme Slow.”

Smooth B also responded to DJ Akademiks’ controversial statement about hip-hop’s pioneers being “dusty.” From there, he explained the way his generation used to respect their elders when they were coming up before referencing LL Cool J’s wise response to DJ Akademiks. He then questioned Akademiks’ credentials as a musician by asking if he’s even a real DJ like Vlad. Moving along, Smooth B reflected on the beginning stages of hip hop, respecting the art of emceeing, being raised by his mother, and growing up in a melting pot environment around multiple cultures.
