In this clip, Tavis Smiley spoke in-depth about the nature of his 20+ year friendship with the late-great Prince. Tavis recounted how they became friends after Prince pursued him for a conversation about things in the realm of racial justice and politics. Tavis said they immediately became close through their love of conversation and intellectual exchange. Later in the clip, Tavis confirmed that Quincy Jones tried getting Prince and Micheal Jackson to collaborate on Michael’s song ‘Bad.’ However, that never happened because Prince couldn’t get past one line that Michael was to sing.
