Last week we sat down with Oakland artist Young JR for an exclusive “Off The Porch” interview! During our conversation he talked about life in Oakland, being in the streets when he was young, jumping off the porch when he was 11, his mom being locked up when he was younger, his OG serving a 52 year prison sentence, starting to take music seriously when he was 18, being a big fan of Boosie, the grind it took to get music buzzing, his creative process, reveals he has 100,000 songs, partnering with EMPIRE, the music scene in Oakland right now, there being a lack on unity in Oakland, other artists in the Bay trying to sound like Detroit artists, bringing a lot off energy to his shows, sacrifices he has to made, taking some time off from making music when he was wife passed away in 2020, reveals what inspired him to start back making music, his single “Back End” blowing up, being very open to his fans about his life, his upcoming album ‘Born Again’, the dance that inspired his song “Bird Walk”, goals for 2022, advice for the youth, fatherhood, and much more!
