Lord Jamar of Brand Nubian shared the story behind a notorious fight that erupted at an LA show years ago. The incident took place during a performance in Los Angeles with Lord Jamar, Sadat X, and Sincere (deejaying for the group) on stage. According to Jamar, a sound technician’s poor mixing sparked tensions when Sincere confronted him about technical issues. The argument quickly escalated into a physical altercation just offstage. Brand Nubian’s entourage, including about 50 men from Jordan Downs, backed them up, leading to the soundman getting beaten. Following the clash, tensions flared outside the venue, with reports of gunfire and chaos. Despite the violence, Jamar reflected on the loyalty within the group and their crew, highlighting the raw energy of the early ’90s hip-hop scene.
