Mia Santoro shared her experience of facing a capital murder trial at 17, alongside co-defendant Tay-K. Initially offered a 10-year probation deal, Mia rejected plea bargains that escalated to a 40-year sentence in exchange for her testimony against Tay-K and others. Maintaining her innocence, Mia chose to go to trial, where she sought to present a defense based on duress, rooted in claims of trafficking. However, evidence supporting her claims was disallowed, leaving her unprotected against severe accusations. The trial concluded with Mia being the only defendant convicted of all charges, including capital murder. Although spared from the death penalty, she was sentenced to 20 years to life on a determinate sentence, eligible for parole after two decades.
