Mike Moy shares chilling insights into the notorious Vietnamese gang BTK, once known as the Canal Boys in Chinatown. This gang emerged from a splinter group separating from established Chinese gangs like the Ghost Shadows and Flying Dragons. Renowned for their reckless violence, BTK earned infamy through audacious acts like bombing a police van. Moy explains that many Vietnamese refugees, including BTK members, were uprooted during the Vietnam War and arrived in the U.S. without family or support, leading some to crime. Unlike other gangs that adhered to unwritten street rules, BTK disregarded such protocols, driven by desperation and a hunger for survival. Moy recalls a personal encounter where a new recruit’s bravado collapsed under pressure, leaving him in a tense face-off with armed BTK members.
