On December 8, 2022, Torrey Damien Moore walked into a Dash In convenience store in the White Oak area of Montgomery County, Maryland, and a brief confrontation escalated into a deadly shooting that killed 61-year-old clerk Ayalew Wondimu. Investigators quickly traced Moore back to his apartment across the street, where they made an even more horrifying discovery: the decomposing body of his 26-year-old pregnant girlfriend, Denise Middleton, who was eight-and-a-half months pregnant and had planned to name her unborn son Ezekiel. As detectives pieced together Moore’s movements and evidence from the scene, the case spiraled from a shocking store murder into a three-victim prosecution that included the killing of a viable fetus, a first-of-its-kind conviction in Montgomery County.
