âKendrick has so many flows, voices, and styles, plus Dre beats are really incredible, so I figured it would be dope,â DJ Critical Hype told Pigeons & Planes about creating the mixtape. âI was determined to make it work, but the truth is it wasnât easy. A lot of the tempos actually didnât mix well. It was a lot more work trying to find good mixes. I had to dig deep and make a capellas for about 60 to 70 Kendrick songs and try and find stuff I was happy with. I really wanted to mix âLook Out For Detoxâ and âMoney Trees,â as well as a lot of album cuts off the DAMN. album. The problem is Dre doesnât have many slower beats. Iâm really happy with the results, though. All the hard work and dedication to this project paid off.â

He takes vocals from songs across Kendrickâs catalog, using more recent releases like âXXX.â and âHow Much A Dollar Costâ as well as older cuts like âPoe Manâs Dreams (His Vice)â and âAverage Joe.â Featured Dre beats include Eminemâs âMy Name Isâ and N.W.Aâs âDopeman.â

This isnât Critical Hypeâs first major mashup project. Back in 2016, he put Chance The Rapperâs vocals over beats by Kanye West to create his Chance the Dropout mixtape.
