21 Savage Has Signed a Deal With a Major Label

Throughout 21 Savage‘s wildly successful 2016, a lot of us wondered whether he would sign a deal with a label or remain on the independent path that has worked so well for him up to this point.

Sitting down with the guys at Rap Radar Podcast, he answered that question. He has signed with Epic Records.

Explaining that he trusted the label’s chairman and CEO L.A. Reid, 21 said, “I ain’t wanna just sign on some straight business shit. I wanna sign to someone who believes in me and understands me.”

Fleshing out these statements, he explained, “Because he’s black. He’s probably the last black CEO. Why not? He’ll understand me before anyone else.” He added that Reid’s favorite song of his is “No Heart.”

So, instead of following in the path of guys like Chance The Rapper and staying independent, 21 Savage will join Epic Records’ impressive roster which includes artists like Travis Scott, Future, DJ Khaled, André 3000, and Big Boi.

Listen to the full podcast episode below, in which he shares his crazy life story, discusses his relationship with Drake, and more. The conversation about Epic Records starts at the 50:00 mark.
