50 Cent Told Dana White That Floyd Mayweather Is ‘Dead Serious’ About Fighting Conor McGregor

Dana White killed the idea of a Floyd Mayweather/Conor McGregor fight ever happening back in October, and the UFC head honcho has continued to shoot down rumors about the possibility of the fight in recent weeks as well. But during an appearance on Fox Sports Live on Tuesday, White threw a log back on the fire and warmed the Mayweather/McGregor story back up by relaying something that was told to him by none other than 50 Cent.

According to White, he was out to eat in New York City in November after the UFC 205 card—at Philippe, in case you were wondering—when he ran into 50. And after chatting with the rapper for awhile, 50 asked him whether or not McGregor really wants to fight Mayweather. White dismissed the question and told him that the fight will never happen because “Floyd don’t want to fight Conor.” But 50 responded by saying that Mayweather is “dead serious” about fighting McGregor and wants to make the fight happen sooner or later.

Here’s the story White told:

I was at dinner in New York for [UFC] 205, and we bumped into each other at dinner. So we were hanging out, we were talking for awhile, and then I went over and sat back at my table and I ate. And then when we were leaving, he said to me, ‘When’s your boy gonna fight Floyd?’ And I said, ‘My boy? Who are you talking about, Conor?’ And he said, ‘Yeah.’ I said, ‘Floyd don’t want to fight Conor.’ And he goes, ‘He does, Dana. He’s dead serious about it.’ And I said, ‘I don’t know, man. Call Floyd and see what’s going on.’ So that’s how the whole thing got started up again.

We should add that, just seconds after telling that story, White did throw cold water on it by saying that he doesn’t think the fight will ever go down. “If you look at the Mayweather/Pacquiao fight, it was the biggest fight in boxing forever. It’s all anybody talked about,” he said. “Look how long it took to get that done, and they’re both in the same sport. I highly doubt this fight would ever happen.”

But hey, even he isn’t letting the rumor just die, so…maybe? Whatever the case, the next logical step in this story is for TMZ to track Mayweather down and Mayweather to tell them that 50 doesn’t speak for him. There’s nothing that Mayweather hates more than people telling the media what he’s going to do. Who knows? Maybe it’ll even lead to Mayweather vs. 50, Round 500.

Whatever the case, stay tuned! This is the story that just isn’t going to end. At least, not until a Mayweather/McGregor fight actually happens. And that could take, well, forever.
