Beyoncé, Chance the Rapper, and Migos Lead 2017 BET Awards Nominees List

On June 25, the BET Awards will be emanating from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. To get everyone hyped, BET announced the nominees for the 2017 BET Awards, and to the surprise of no one, Beyoncé is leading the pack with seven nominations, most of which are tied to her dynamic 2016 release, Lemonade.

Sure, the album dropped in April of 2016, but that did not make it ineligible for consideration last year. She’s up for Video of the Year for “Sorry,” as well as a nominee in the categories for Best Female R&B/Pop Artist and Best Album for Lemonade. She’s even listed twice (!) in the Best Collaboration category for her work on DJ Khaled’s “Shining” (which also features her husband Jay Z) and “Freedom,” the Kendrick Lamar-featured track off of Lemonade that they actually performed at the 2016 BET Awards.

Bruno Mars netted five nominations, which makes him second behind Bey amongst all nominees. Bruno’s up for Best Male R&B/Pop Artist, while “24K Magic” is up for Video of the Year. Beyoncé’s sister Solange garnered four nominations, pitting her against Queen Bey in two categories: Video of the Year (“Cranes in the Sky”) and Best Female R&B/Pop Artist.

Recent Complex cover guy Chance the Rapper is up for four nominations, including Best Collaboration (“No Problem” with 2 Chainz and Lil Wayne), Best Male Hip-Hop Artist, Best New Artist, and Album of the Year for Coloring Book. Migos continue their impressive 2017 showing with their smash hit “Bad and Boujee” with Lil Uzi Vert being up for Video of the Year, Best Collaboration, and Coca-Cola Viewer’s Choice Award; the trio is also up for Best Group.

Drake is also up for a pair of awards, and BET’s impressive Best Movie category features a number of stand-outs, including MoonlightGet Out, and Hidden Figures. For the full list of 2017 BET Awards nominees, hit up BET.com.
