Chance the Rapper Mourns the Loss of His Aunt: ‘She Was a Warrior’
Chance the Rapper is mourning the loss of his aunt Kimberly Bennett right now. Bennett died on Sunday after battling inflammatory breast cancer, which is a type of cancer that is, according to Chance, commonly misdiagnosed by those in the medical field. Chance shared the news about his “Auntie Kim” on Twitter on Tuesday.
“She was a warrior,” Chance wrote.
Chance also shared a video that his aunt created in conjunction with the Inflammatory Breast Cancer Foundation back in February. In the video, Bennett talked about how she found out that she had inflammatory breast cancer. She also spoke about some of the misconceptions that are associated with inflammatory breast cancer and discussed how she decided to fight it as hard as she could despite being diagnosed with stage four cancer. And towards the end of the clip, she encouraged those currently engaged in a battle with cancer to do the same and fight it as hard as they possibly can.
“The goal of this cancer is to kill you and to kill you fast,” she said. “The only thing you can do to help yourself is to respond and react as fast as you can. That’s the only thing that will save your life.”
Chance’s fans have sent their condolences to him and his family and thanked him for sharing the clip of his aunt with his followers:
