Drake Earns iTunes’ Best-Selling Album and Single of 2016
Drake‘s Views and “One Dance” both earned the top spot as on iTunes‘ best-selling album and single list, respectively.
This news isn’t too surprising considering Drake has a very tight business relationship with Apple and first debuted his latest album on Apple Music‘s Beats 1 Radio earlier this year. Views went on to become the first album to earn more than a billion streams on Apple Music.
The rest of iTunes’ list is filled with other huge projects of 2016 including Rihanna’s Anti that landed in the No. 2 spot. Adele’s 25, Frank Ocean’s Blonde, and Justin Bieber’s Purpose rounded out the rest of the top five of the best-selling albums list.
“One Dance” was another huge hit for Drake and the No. 1 song dominated iTunes. It was followed by Justin Timberlake’s “Can’t Stop the Feeling,” Rihanna’s “Work,” which features Drake, Flo Rida’s “My House,” and Lukas Graham’s “7 Years.”
The list is determined by combining the number of downloads from iTunes with the number of streams on Apple Music, according to AP.
On top of dominating iTunes, Drake’s Views recently scored multiple Grammy nominations including a nod for the honor of Album of the Year. It was also recently certified quadruple platinum, making it the second of Drizzy’s projects to do so with Take Care previously reaching the same milestone. The rapper was also recently named the No. 1 artist on Spotify with “One Dance” becoming the most streamed song in Spotify’s history with over 880 million streams. Not too bad, Drake.
